Brutal Detail Emerges in New York Giants QB Search

The New York Giants currently have no idea who their starting quarterback will be in 2025. The only thing we know at this point is that the Daniel Jones era is over, as the Giants released him late last season.

But what now? Will the Giants sign a veteran? Will they draft a quarterback? Will they seriously turn to Tommy DeVito?

There is still time for New York to get things sorted out, but with the NFL Draft quickly approaching, the Giants probably need to get moving.

While Russell Wilson has been generally viewed as Big Blue’s top target on the free-agent market, New York also apparently expressed interest in Mason Rudolph, but Mike Garafolo of NFL media has revealed that Rudolph actually skipped out on a video call with the Giants to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“Last week, Joe Flacco and Russell Wilson paid their visits to the New York Giants. They were also going to have a Zoom with Mason Rudolph, but then he decided to go with the Steelers. So they’re going through all these veteran options,” Garafolo said on Good Morning Football.

Well, here’s the thing: Rudolph spent the first six years of his career in Pittsburgh before taking a one-year detour with the Tennessee Titans in 2024. So, there is familiarity there, and he actually may have a chance to start for the Steelers next season, as they too have quite a quarterback conundrum on their hands.

But the fact that the Giants—a once proud NFL franchise—could not even get Rudolph on a video call epitomizes exactly where they are right now as an organization.

To be fair, New York actually does have some legitimate pieces. Malik Nabers is a superstar in the making at wide receiver, and running back Tyrone Tracy had a terrific rookie campaign. The Giants also have some very impressive pass rushers and did a great job addressing their secondary in free agency.

But without a quarterback, none of that will matter. New York does own the No. 3 overall pick in the draft next month. However, the Titans and Cleveland Browns—two teams in dire need of a signal-caller—will be selecting ahead of them, so Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders could both presumably—if not likely—be off the board by the time the Giants are on the clock.

We’ll see if the G-Men are able to save themselves here over the next several weeks, but things aren’t looking all that pretty in the Big Apple (well, technically New Jersey) at the moment.
