Brooklyn Nets Rumors: Team Interested in D’Angelo Russell Reunion

Brooklyn Nets rumors have been picking up in the last week. Ahead of the 2024 NBA Draft, the team made two big trades to signal which direction the franchise would be heading shortly.

They traded their best player, Mikal Bridges, to the New York Knicks in exchange for Bojan Bogdanovic and a boatload of draft picks. Now tanking, they also sent multiple picks to the Houston Rockets to get their own 2026 first-round pick back and remove the swap on their 2025 selections.

Alas, it doesn’t sound as if the team is done making moves. According to recent Nets rumors that have emerged, the franchise could be open to a reunion with former point guard, D’Angelo Russell.

According to Anthony Irwin of Lakers Daily, via Legion Hoops on X, Brooklyn has shown interest in Russell going back to last season’s trade deadline. His expiring contract is attractive to the now-rebuilding Nets.

Looking to fill out their roster around LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Nets have several pieces that would fit. Cameron Johnson and Dorian Finney-Smith top the trade candidates list, along with Ben Simmons.

Russell played for the Nets from 2017 to 2019 after being acquired from the Lakers in a trade. He made his only All-Star team to this point in 2019, helping lead the team to playoffs after an ugly teardown period.

That offseason, he was traded to the Golden State Warriors as part of sign-and-trade for Kevin Durant. He was with Golden State for half of a season before being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Expect Nets rumors to continue persisting throughout the 2024 NBA offseason. Sean Marks has made it clear his team is open for business as they have turned an eye toward the future. Acquiring Russell and his expiring contract would be another solid move for the franchise to make.
