Bronny James Makes Official Decision on Basketball Future

Bronny James, NBA Draft
David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

Arguably the most polarizing prospect in the 2024 NBA Draft Class is USC freshman guard Bronny James. The son of future Hall of Famer LeBron James announced his intentions to test the NBA waters while transferring and retaining college eligibility.

With just hours remaining until the deadline to declare for the 2024 NBA Draft, an official decision has been announced. According to Rich Paul, the Klutch Sports CEO, Bronny James will be remaining in the 2024 NBA Draft, forgoing the rest of his college eligibility.

This is big news for Bronny James, who has his work cut out for him to get selected. Right now, a lot of the hype surrounding him as a potential draft pick ties into the opportunity to sign his father in free agency.

Some scouts have issued brutal reports on him, as they don’t see him as an NBA prospect. If he wasn’t the son of LeBron James, he wouldn’t be getting this kind of publicity in the opinion of many.

Currently, he is the No. 54 overall prospect in the top 100 for the 2024 draft class. But, his scope goes beyond what he showed in the 2024 NBA Combine or during his time with the Trojans. If there is a chance, even a minuscule one, that selecting him means LeBron follows, teams will take that risk.

“Bronny’s [draft] range is wide,” Paul told ESPN. “He’s a really good prospect who has a lot of room for growth. It only takes one team. I don’t care where that team is — it can be No. 1 or 58 — [but] I do care about the plan, the development. The team’s strategy, the opportunity and the financial commitment. That’s why I’m not doing a two-way deal. Every team understands that.”

Two-way contracts have become a useful tool for NBA teams in recent years. It gives them a chance to stash a prospect while developing them in the G League and with the parent team. However, that is not a route Paul is looking to have Bronny James go down.

It will be interesting to see how things play out in the coming weeks. The pre-draft process will be important for him, as he needs to prove his game is bigger than his name.
