The Chicago Bears continued refining their roster this week by terminating the contracts of defensive back KC Eziomume, wide receiver Kyron Hudson, and safety Gervarrius Owens.

The moves came via injury settlements and clear the way as the team prepares for its second preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday, Aug. 22, at Paycor Stadium.

Eziomume, an undrafted free agent out of Tulane, and Owens had been waived with injury designations earlier in training camp on August 8. Hudson, who signed with the Bears in May after time at USC and Penn State, was waived/injured a couple of days later on Aug. 10.

After reverting to injured reserve, the trio reached settlements that allow them to become free agents once they pass physicals, opening opportunities to sign elsewhere for the remainder of the 2026 season.

These cuts reflect the Bears’ ongoing management of a 90-man roster amid injuries, particularly in the secondary.

Owens had been carted off the field during a mid-camp practice with what reports described as a left leg issue. Eziomume’s injury details remained undisclosed, while Hudson’s designation also pointed to an undisclosed issue. The transactions free up roster space as Chicago evaluates depth players and veterans ahead of the final preseason cutdown.

The Bears opened the preseason with a win over the Cleveland Browns on Aug. 15 at Soldier Field. They now turn their attention to the Bengals, with joint practices scheduled in the lead-up to the Saturday night contest.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET, providing additional evaluation opportunities for players fighting for roster spots or practice squad consideration.

For the three released players, the settlements represent a common NFL outcome for those who suffer injuries early in camp. Eziomume had drawn attention as a hard-working undrafted addition eager to prove himself under the Bears’ defensive backs coaching staff.

Hudson brought size and production from his college career, while Owens, a veteran safety who had been with the team on a futures deal, offered secondary depth before his injury.

As the Bears continue camp and prepare for the Bengals, these moves underscore the competitive and often unforgiving nature of roster construction in the preseason.

Further adjustments are expected in the coming days as the team works toward the 53-man roster deadline at the end of the month.

Fans will watch closely to see how the remaining depth holds up against Cincinnati.
