Former New England Patriots wide receiver Phillip Dorsett is back on the open market after the Las Vegas Raiders released him from their practice squad Friday.
The 33-year-old veteran had been with Las Vegas since late September, providing depth without appearing in a regular-season game.
Raiders officials confirmed the move in a corresponding transaction that added tight end Carter Runyon to the practice squad.
Dorsett’s last regular-season action came in 2023 with the Denver Broncos, where he played in two games and finished without a reception.
He originally joined the Patriots via a September 2017 trade from the Indianapolis Colts, with New England sending quarterback Jacoby Brissett the other way.
Over three seasons in Foxborough, Dorsett totaled 73 receptions for 881 yards and eight touchdowns.
Those numbers included a 2019 campaign in which he caught 29 passes for 397 yards and five scores.
His most memorable contributions arrived during the Patriots’ 2018 postseason run that ended with a Super Bowl title.
Dorsett scored on a 15-yard touchdown reception against the Los Angeles Chargers in the divisional round.
He followed that with a 29-yard touchdown catch against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.
The Patriots then defeated the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 in Super Bowl LIII, securing Dorsett’s only championship ring.
Across six playoff games with New England, he recorded eight receptions for 126 yards and two touchdowns.
Selected 29th overall by Indianapolis in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Miami, Dorsett has amassed 151 career receptions for 2,001 yards and 12 touchdowns in regular-season play.
He has bounced among multiple teams since leaving the Patriots after the 2019 season, including stints with the Seahawks, Jaguars, Texans, Broncos and Raiders.
Friday’s release also coincided with another transaction involving Brissett, who was traded from the Arizona Cardinals to the Baltimore Ravens.
Dorsett now re-enters free agency as he continues seeking opportunities to remain in the league at age 33.
Patriots fans remember him as a reliable depth option who stepped up during the team’s last Super Bowl-winning campaign under Tom Brady.
