Bears Slapped With Brutal Prediction Before Buccaneers Game

The Chicago Bears rode into the week on a wave of momentum after a 34-17 win in Seattle, only for a national voice to warn that Sunday night could bring a hard landing at Soldier Field.

FS1’s Nick Wright offered the blunt assessment that Chicago is set up for a setback against the Buccaneers.

“This feels to me like a vintage ‘NFL humbles you’ spot,” Wright said on Friday’s “First Things First.” “Bears flying a little high. The Bucs’ defense? Wildly underrated. The Bears on a short week.”

The comments landed as a reality check for a 6-2 team that has generated Super Bowl talk after its third straight win. Chicago sits second in the NFC North and has looked every bit like a contender under Ben Johnson.

Wright pushed back on the growing hype.

“I don’t think they’re going to go 15-2. I don’t think they are going to just run through the rest of the schedule,” Wright said of the Bears. “And I think this is the type of spot where teams lose all the time. Fresh off a huge win, when everyone is planning parades and booking flights for the Super Bowl, the NFL reminds you. … Will the Bucs slow down Caleb and the Bears? I say yes.”

That prediction frames the matchup as a classic trap game for a home favorite coming off a signature road win on Monday night. The short week leaves less time to prepare for a Tampa Bay defense that has quietly ranked among the league’s best.

The Buccaneers allow a league-low 80.0 rushing yards per game, first in the NFL through eight contests. Chicago’s own run defense sits third at 86.8 yards allowed per game, but the visitor’s unit has been even more restrictive.

Offensively, the Bears average 26.8 points and 387.3 total yards per game, with 150.8 coming on the ground. Those numbers rank eighth, third and second, respectively. Tampa Bay counters with the NFL’s top rushing attack at 168.6 yards per game, though its passing game ranks last at 131.4.

The Bears enter as roughly six-point favorites after the line moved in their favor following the Seahawks result. Markets still view Chicago as the stronger side, yet Wright sees the spot itself as the equalizer.

Tampa Bay improved to 3-5 with a 16-0 shutout of Atlanta and a 43-13 win at Carolina. Those results came despite a struggling passing attack, highlighting a defense that has limited opponents to 18.9 points per game, fifth-best in the league.

For the Bears, the concern is whether the recent high can carry over against a unit built to take away the run. Caleb Williams has thrived with balance, but facing the league’s stingiest ground defense on a short week presents a different test.

Wright’s take does not question the Bears’ overall talent so much as the timing. Fresh off a primetime statement and amid rising expectations, Chicago faces a visitor that has won two straight and specializes in stopping the exact style of attack that has powered the 6-2 start.

The prediction amounts to a warning that the schedule can humble even the hottest teams. Whether the Buccaneers can deliver that reminder will play out under the lights at Soldier Field.
