The Dallas Cowboys have added depth at running back before the NFL trade deadline, signing Jashaun Corbin to their practice squad, via the NFL transaction wire.
The move reunites the team with a player who spent time in training camp and the preseason earlier this year.
Corbin, 26, is no stranger to the organization. Dallas signed him on August 7 after a strong spring in the United Football League, waiving undrafted rookie Dominic Richardson in a corresponding move.
He appeared in the preseason finale against the New Orleans Saints, carrying three times for 14 yards, before being released at final roster cuts on August 30.
The Cowboys’ decision to bring him back comes amid a thin backfield. Javonte Williams remains the clear starter, having rushed for 528 yards and eight touchdowns through eight games, but the team has only Tyler Goodson as the other running back on the active roster.
Israel Abanikanda is already on the practice squad, and Dallas recently parted ways with Emari Demercado.
With the club averaging just 94.1 rushing yards per game—among the league’s lower totals—additional insurance makes sense heading into a Week 9 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
Corbin’s path to this point has been circuitous.
An undrafted free agent out of Florida State in 2022 after beginning his career at Texas A&M, he appeared in six games for the New York Giants in 2023, totaling one rush for one yard and three catches for 12 yards.
He later spent time on practice squads with the Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, and New England Patriots.
His breakout came in the UFL. In 2025 with the San Antonio Brahmas, Corbin led the league in rushing with 514 yards on 97 carries (5.3 average) and four touchdowns, earning All-UFL honors.
The following spring with the Orlando Storm, he posted 438 yards and three scores on 131 carries while adding 21 receptions for 118 yards and contributing as a kick returner (322 yards on 12 returns).
At 5-foot-11 and roughly 215-220 pounds, Corbin is a decisive, north-south runner with soft hands and experience in the return game.
While he is not expected to immediately challenge Williams for carries, his familiarity with the Cowboys’ system and proven production in spring football make him a logical depth option if injuries arise.
Dallas hosted tryouts with Blake Watson and Damon Bankston earlier in the week before settling on Corbin.
For a 3-5 team still searching for consistency on the ground, the signing is a low-risk way to reinforce the position without disrupting the current depth chart.
