The Los Angeles Chargers dropped to 0-7 on Sunday with a 24-9 loss to the cross-town Rams at SoFi Stadium, their seventh straight defeat and the franchise’s worst start since the 2000 season.
Coming off their bye week, the Chargers managed only three field goals and failed to reach the end zone for the second consecutive game. Justin Herbert completed 24 of 32 passes for 257 yards but threw two interceptions and was strip-sacked. He now leads the NFL with 10 interceptions through seven games while posting just five touchdown passes.
The offense has not scored a touchdown since late in the third quarter of its Week 5 loss to the Broncos. The team has gone 27 consecutive drives without a score, the longest such streak in the league since the 2024 Miami Dolphins. Los Angeles is averaging 14.1 points per game, ranking last among the 32 NFL teams.
“Yeah, aware of that and keep working, keep studying,” head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters afterward. “It’s not a familiar position for any of the guys in our locker room, so we’re the only ones who can change it. We are highly motivated and dedicated to do that.”
Asked specifically about Herbert’s turnovers, Harbaugh said, “Yeah, we’re aware of what the issues are, and we’re the only ones who can fix them.”
Harbaugh confirmed that offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel will continue to call plays. He offered limited detail when pressed on why he remains confident the unit can reverse course.
“First of all, it’s a team effort, and we’re going to look at the film,” Harbaugh said. “We’re going to address our issues, where we can get better, and just keep working. That’s highly motivated and dedicated to getting this right.
“We’re the only ones that have the opportunity to change it, to fix it. And that’s what we’re going to do, go back to work. I have not been in this position that many times either, here as a coach. But I know we have to be dedicated ourselves to getting this turned. That’s where we’re at.”
Harbaugh also said he has not considered benching Herbert. The Chargers finished 11-6 and reached the playoffs in each of the previous two seasons under Harbaugh. They are the first team in NFL history to open 0-7 after winning at least 11 games the year before, and one of only a handful in the Super Bowl era to start 0-7 after a postseason appearance.
This marks the third 0-7 start in franchise history. The last came in 2000, when Harbaugh himself started several games as the team’s quarterback on a squad that finished 1-15.
The Chargers controlled the ball for more than 32 minutes on Sunday and generated more total yards than the Rams, yet the turnovers and inability to finish drives proved decisive. Herbert has thrown an interception in every game this season and is the only quarterback to do so.
Los Angeles returns home next week to face the Houston Texans. The Chargers remain the only winless team in the league.
