The New York Giants under John Harbaugh have spent this season methodically reshaping their identity, clearing space for players who fit a more disciplined, physical standard while keeping one eye on the NFC East race.

With the trade deadline approaching, the defense still shows clear vulnerabilities: the unit ranks near the bottom of the league in generating consistent pressure and sits only mid-pack against the run.

Those gaps have limited how much the front can dictate games, even as younger pieces like Abdul Carter flash on the edge.

A move that simultaneously shores up both deficiencies would give Harbaugh something tangible to show for the program’s early direction.

Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated recently floated one such scenario in a piece outlining dream trades ahead of the deadline.

He suggested the Giants could acquire Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby, potentially packaging Kayvon Thibodeaux the other way to ease the cost.

Crosby, still in his athletic prime but already displaying the power of a veteran who sets the edge with authority, would immediately upgrade New York’s ability to rush the passer and hold the point of attack.

Orr noted that the Raiders’ earlier asking price had been in the range of two first-round picks when Crosby nearly moved last offseason, yet including the younger Thibodeaux—who is on a strong recent stretch and carries a more manageable contract trajectory—could make the arithmetic more palatable for both sides.

From the Giants’ perspective, the appeal extends beyond pure production.

Harbaugh has already shown a willingness to move established pieces when they do not align with the culture he is installing, and Thibodeaux’s status has never been framed as permanently untouchable.

Sending him to Las Vegas as a high-upside evaluation piece could open the door for Crosby to finish his career in the league’s largest market while pairing with Carter on the opposite side.

That combination would address the pressure and run-defense shortfalls in one stroke and give the Giants a clearer path to controlling the line of scrimmage in division games.

Whether the price is ultimately workable remains an open question, and any deal would have to be weighed against the long-term capital New York is still accumulating.

Still, for a franchise looking to prove its early progress is more than cosmetic, landing a proven, versatile edge defender like Crosby would supply exactly the kind of statement acquisition that reinforces the direction Harbaugh is charting.
