In an updated 2027 NFL mock draft, NFL Trade Rumors writer Ethan Woodie has the Tennessee Titans selecting Oklahoma State quarterback Drew Mestemaker with the No. 2 overall pick.
Woodie argues that a top-three selection would make it difficult for Tennessee to pass on a quarterback, given the performance of current starter Cam Ward.
Ward, the No. 1 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, has not met expectations in his second season, according to the analysis.
Through seven games in 2026, Ward has completed 62% of his passes for 1,179 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions, ranking near the bottom of the league in several efficiency categories. The Titans stand at 1-6, with the offense averaging just 15.4 points per game.
In the team’s Week 6 win over the Indianapolis Colts, Ward completed 11 of 22 passes for 102 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Woodie specifically highlighted that outing as evidence that Ward has not shown enough consistency.
The suggestion centers on Mestemaker as a high-upside alternative who could allow the franchise to reset at the position.
Mestemaker, born in January 2006, is a redshirt sophomore listed at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds.
He arrived at Oklahoma State via the transfer portal after a breakout 2025 season at North Texas, where he led the FBS with 4,379 passing yards and threw 34 touchdowns.
That production earned him the Burlsworth Trophy as the nation’s top former walk-on, American Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors and first-team all-conference recognition.
Through the early portion of the 2026 season at Oklahoma State, Mestemaker has completed roughly 67.5% of his passes for more than 1,500 yards and double-digit touchdowns.
Analysts have noted his arm talent, athleticism and competitive toughness, with some ranking him among the top quarterback prospects in the 2027 class despite his limited experience.
Woodie described the prospect as “an extremely young” player “just oozing production and potential.”
The mock draft frames the pick as a chance for Tennessee to start over rather than continue building around Ward.
No formal interest from the Titans has been reported; the projection remains a speculative assessment based on the team’s current trajectory and Mestemaker’s rapid rise.
