Former New Orleans Saints left tackle Terron Armstead named the Denver Broncos the ideal landing spot for Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor in a clip NFL on CBS posted Wednesday.
Armstead played nine seasons for Sean Payton in New Orleans after the Saints drafted him in the third round, No. 75 overall, in 2013. He finished a 12-year career with three seasons in Miami, made five Pro Bowls and announced his retirement in April 2025.
“We play the game for winning and finances,” Armstead said. “Jonathan Taylor has his contract in place. It’s time to go win. He’s done it. He’s been All-Pro. He’s led the league in rushing. He’s done all these things. It’s time to go win. And I strongly feel like Denver Broncos would be the ideal fit for him.”
“And they are willing,” Armstead continued. “We saw Denver send a first-round pick to the Miami Dolphins for Jaylen Waddle.”
Denver sent the No. 30 overall pick in the 2026 draft and third- and fourth-round selections to Miami in March for Waddle and a Dolphins fourth-rounder.
Armstead made no claim to inside information.
“I’m just throwing, I don’t know anything,” Armstead added. “I haven’t sent Sean a text or nothing. I’m just saying. This team, they’ve shown the willingness to do so to upgrade their offense.”
The Colts are 2-5 and started selling Tuesday. Indianapolis traded guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-rounder, then sent defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2027 fourth-round pick.
Those trades came about a week after the Colts fired general manager Chris Ballard. Indianapolis does not own its 2027 first-round pick, which went to the New York Jets in a trade at last season’s deadline.
Denver is already on the list of interested teams. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Sunday that the Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings were among the clubs interested in Taylor.
Through seven games, Taylor has 587 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 140 carries. He ran 18 times for 95 yards and a 38-yard score in Sunday’s 16-10 loss at Minnesota.
Last season he led the NFL with 323 carries and 18 rushing touchdowns. His 1,585 rushing yards ranked third. Taylor won the 2021 rushing title with 1,811 yards, earned first-team All-Pro honors that season and has three Pro Bowl selections.
Indianapolis signed him to a two-year, $44 million extension on Aug. 6. The deal includes $39 million guaranteed and a $15 million signing bonus, and it runs through the 2028 season.
The Broncos are 5-2 after Sunday’s 30-16 win at Arizona. Rookie Jonah Coleman, back from injured reserve, led Denver’s running backs with nine carries in that game. J.K. Dobbins ran six times for 23 yards and a touchdown.
The Colts have given no indication they are ready to move Taylor. Adam Schefter of ESPN said Tuesday on The Pat McAfee Show that ownership does not want to trade him, and that his own guess was the Colts would keep him. Taylor told reporters last week he had not given a trade any thought.
Should Indianapolis open the door before the Nov. 10 trade deadline, Denver would be taking on a $22 million average salary at a position where it re-signed Dobbins this offseason.
