Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce added another historic marker to his career on Sunday night in Seattle.

With his third catch of the fourth quarter against the Seahawks, he moved past Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez for the most receiving yards by a tight end in NFL history when regular-season and postseason totals are combined.

The milestone arrives in Kelce’s fourteenth season, at a stage when most players have already stepped away.

Gonzalez built his record largely through regular-season durability across seventeen years, finishing with 15,127 yards in the regular season and only 286 more in the playoffs.

He appeared in just seven postseason games. Kelce’s path has been different.

His regular-season total still trails Gonzalez, but his postseason production—more than 2,000 yards across a long run of deep January and February appearances—closed the gap. Those extra games, and his production in them, made the combined record reachable now rather than years from now.

Earlier this season Kelce had already moved past Jason Witten into second place among tight ends in regular-season receiving yards.

The remaining distance to Gonzalez’s regular-season mark is still significant, yet the playoff numbers change the conversation about overall production.

Kelce already holds the records for most postseason receptions and most 100-yard receiving games by a tight end. Those marks reflect both the Chiefs’ sustained success under Patrick Mahomes and Kelce’s own consistency when the stakes rise.

At the same time, other career lists remain out of immediate reach. Kelce trails both Gonzalez and Witten in career receptions by a tight end, and he sits behind Gonzalez, Antonio Gates, Rob Gronkowski, and Jimmy Graham in touchdown catches.

Those gaps are real, yet they do not diminish the yards milestone. Production at this stage of a career is rare, and Kansas City’s offense continues to feature him heavily.

Entering the week he led the team in receiving yards and remained a reliable target even when the pocket collapsed around Mahomes. Their connection under pressure has ranked among the league’s best this season.

Kelce has spoken about the team’s collective effort after a difficult previous year, noting that players are competing for one another. The yards record fits that picture.

It is the product of sustained availability, a long run of high-stakes games, and the ability to keep producing at an age when decline is expected.

Gonzalez’s place as the gold-standard tight end of his era is secure. Kelce’s latest achievement simply places him alongside that standard in the category that counts every game that was played.

For a player still lining up as the Chiefs’ primary receiving threat in his fourteenth season, the number now reflects both longevity and the volume of meaningful football that has defined his career.
