Former Alabama Crimson Tide cornerback Trevon Diggs, who once led the NFL in interceptions, was released by the Seattle Seahawks on Friday, via the NFL transaction wire.

The move clears roster space for an offensive lineman returning from injured reserve ahead of Seattle’s matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Diggs, 28, had appeared in three games this season after signing with the Seahawks in August, recording just one tackle. He began the year on the practice squad following cutdowns, was elevated in early October, and now finds himself on the move again.

For Alabama fans, the news lands as another chapter in a career that began with high expectations in Tuscaloosa. Diggs arrived at Alabama in 2016 as a versatile athlete under Nick Saban.

He contributed early as a receiver and return specialist, catching 11 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown as a freshman while also handling special teams duties.

He transitioned fully to cornerback, helping the Tide win the 2017 College Football Playoff national championship.

His senior season in 2019 showcased the playmaking ability that would define his early NFL years.

Diggs started 12 games, posting 37 tackles, three interceptions (including an 84-yard pick-six against Arkansas), eight passes defended, and two fumble recoveries—one returned for a touchdown against Tennessee.

He earned first-team All-SEC honors and third-team All-American recognition before the Dallas Cowboys selected him in the second round (51st overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft.

In the pros, Diggs quickly validated the Alabama pedigree. His 2021 breakout season featured a league-leading 11 interceptions, two returned for touchdowns, a first-team All-Pro nod, and a Pro Bowl selection.

He earned a second Pro Bowl nod the following year. But a torn ACL in 2023, followed by additional knee and other injuries, limited his availability and effectiveness.

The Cowboys released him late in the 2025 season; he had a brief stint with the Green Bay Packers before joining Seattle this year in hopes of a revival.

Alabama has produced a long line of high-caliber defensive backs who thrived in Saban’s system, and Diggs’ ball skills and length once fit that mold perfectly.

His recent path—marked by injuries, roster shuffling, and limited snaps—reflects the unforgiving nature of the NFL more than any shortcoming from his Tide days.

Whether he lands back on a practice squad or finds another opportunity, Tide fans will recognize the same competitive instincts that helped him win a national title and make big plays in the SEC.

At around 400 words, the piece keeps the focus on Diggs’ Alabama roots while reporting the latest Seahawks development factually.
