The Seattle Seahawks released cornerback Trevon Diggs on Friday, clearing a roster spot on their 53-man active roster ahead of Sunday night’s matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, via the NFL transaction wire.

Reports indicated the move was made to activate guard Anthony Bradford from injured reserve, and the team is expected to pursue re-signing Diggs to the practice squad, where he spent much of the early season.

Diggs, who turns 28 this fall after being born in September 1998 in Gaithersburg, Maryland, arrived in Seattle seeking to revive a career that once ranked among the NFL’s brightest.

Selected in the second round of the 2020 draft by the Dallas Cowboys out of Alabama, he quickly emerged as a ball-hawking defender.

In 2021, he led the league with 11 interceptions—the highest single-season total since Everson Walls’ mark in 1981—while earning first-team All-Pro honors and the first of two consecutive Pro Bowl selections.

Over his first three seasons he amassed 17 interceptions and dozens of pass breakups, prompting Dallas to reward him with a five-year, $97 million extension that included a substantial signing bonus.

Injuries soon altered that trajectory. A torn ACL limited him to just two games in 2023, and subsequent knee problems restricted his availability and production in the years that followed.

By late 2025, the Cowboys had released him near the end of the season; the Green Bay Packers claimed him, but he appeared in only a handful of snaps before they waived him in January 2026.

After months as a free agent, Diggs signed a one-year deal with the Seahawks in mid-August. He was cut during final roster reductions, landed on the practice squad, and was later elevated or signed to the active roster for brief stretches.

Through three games with Seattle this season Diggs recorded a single tackle and did not start.

The team’s secondary, featuring established players and a strong coverage unit, offered limited opportunities for a veteran still working his way back from the physical and schematic adjustments required after prolonged absences.

While the release ends his current stint on the active roster, the possibility of a return to the practice squad keeps open a path for continued work in the Seahawks system as he attempts to demonstrate he can still contribute at a high level.

Diggs enters free agency, or potentially the practice squad, carrying a résumé that includes 20 career interceptions, 63 pass deflections, and the distinction of having once been among the league’s most productive young corners.

Whether another team offers a fresh opportunity or he remains in Seattle’s developmental orbit will depend on how quickly he can translate past peak production into consistent, injury-free performance.
