The Baltimore Orioles continue to quietly stock their minor-league system as the World Series prepares to get underway.

On Monday, the club announced a minor-league deal with left-handed pitcher Jayvien Sandridge for the 2027 season, keeping a familiar arm in the organization after he had become eligible for free agency.

Sandridge, a 27-year-old from Hagerstown, Maryland, has come full circle. The Orioles originally selected him in the 32nd round of the 2018 draft out of Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania.

He spent parts of two seasons in their system before being released in May 2020 during the pandemic-shortened campaign.

From there, his path took him through the Cincinnati Reds, San Diego Padres, New York Yankees, and Los Angeles Angels organizations before he returned to Baltimore via a cash trade from the Angels in late March of this year.

His major-league experience remains limited to a single appearance. Sandridge made his debut with the Yankees on July 5, 2025, working two-thirds of an inning and allowing two earned runs.

After being designated for assignment by New York in January and again by the Angels at the end of spring training, the Orioles brought him back as depth.

In 2026, he appeared in just six games for Triple-A Norfolk, posting a 10.13 ERA over 5⅓ innings before landing on the injured list; his final outing of the season came on May 1. It remains unclear whether he will be fully healthy to open next year.

Despite the abbreviated and uneven campaign, the Orioles saw enough to retain him. Across his minor-league career, Sandridge has recorded a 4.12 ERA with 363 strikeouts in 246⅔ innings.

From 2022 through 2025, he posted a 3.93 ERA over 201⅓ frames while striking out more than 33 percent of the batters he faced, though walks have consistently been an issue.

The left-handed relief profile offers the kind of non-roster depth teams seek, particularly when it comes from a local product who already knows the organization.

While the Tampa Bay Rays advanced to the World Series and the Yankees finished their own season in the AL East, the Orioles’ focus has turned toward building for next year.

Re-signing Sandridge is a low-cost move that preserves a strikeout-oriented arm with prior ties to the franchise.

For a pitcher whose professional journey began in Baltimore, the latest agreement simply keeps him in the fold as the club evaluates its options heading into 2027.
