Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken said Monday that the team plays better with wide receiver Jerry Jeudy than it does without him.
Rookies KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston have moved ahead of Jeudy on the depth chart this season.
Jeudy still produced important late-game catches in the Browns’ last two victories. Those plays helped Cleveland stay in position to win close contests.
On Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, Jeudy caught a 33-yard pass and run on third-and-5. The reception set up Andre Szmyt for the game-winning field goal in a 13-10 final.
Jeudy finished that game with a team-leading 69 yards on four catches.
“I mean, we’re better with Jerry than we are without Jerry,” Monken said on Monday. “And I think we’re doing a better job of getting him involved and trying to find the places where we can use Jerry. And it hasn’t been easy, as I said before.”
“But he’s handled it well the last few weeks, and you can see it with the confidence playing, the juice he has. And that’s the biggest thing, from practice to the games, carrying that over.”
Jeudy recorded no receptions in the Browns’ Week 2 and Week 3 wins.He drew only one target across those two victories.
Over the last three games, Jeudy has caught 10 passes for 124 yards. He now sits fourth on the Browns with 150 receiving yards through six games.
That total trails Boston, Concepcion and tight end Harold Fannin.
The Browns improved to 4-2 with Sunday’s win and lead the AFC North on a tiebreaker.
Monken has sought more ways to involve the 27-year-old veteran as the offense spreads targets among younger players. Jeudy’s recent snaps have shown increased comfort in the scheme after limited early-season usage.
His yards after the catch have contributed to several key first downs in recent weeks.
Cleveland faces the Tennessee Titans on the road in Week 7.
