The Dallas Mavericks trimmed their roster on Saturday by waiving guards Seth Lundy and John Poulakidas, moves that open a two-way slot while leaving the franchise still one step short of full compliance with NBA roster limits ahead of Monday’s regular-season deadline.

The moves were revealed via the NBA transaction wire.

Lundy, selected 46th overall in the 2023 draft, arrived in Dallas on a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contract after limited earlier NBA exposure.

He had spent most of his first two professional seasons on two-way deals with the Atlanta Hawks and Los Angeles Clippers, appearing in only nine regular-season games while dealing with left ankle problems.

During the Mavericks’ four preseason contests this month he logged 11.7 minutes per game and averaged 5.5 points, numbers that positioned him as a candidate for the Texas Legends, Dallas’s G League affiliate.

Poulakidas occupied one of the team’s three two-way contracts after signing a two-year deal in March.

Down the stretch of last season, he appeared in 13 games, averaging 8.8 points and 2.3 rebounds in 19.5 minutes while converting 40.3 percent of his three-point attempts.

In the preseason, he remained productive, totaling 21 points across 41 minutes in three games and making 5 of 11 threes. Despite that output, the organization chose to free the slot rather than retain him for the regular season.

The dual waivers leave Dallas with 18 players under contract—16 on standard deals and two remaining on two-ways. NBA rules permit a maximum of 15 standard contracts plus up to three two-way contracts once the regular season begins, so the Mavericks remain over the standard-roster limit.

Attention now turns to veteran center Dwight Powell, whose minimum-salary contract is only partially guaranteed for $1 million.

Retaining him would require the club to trade or waive another player carrying a fully guaranteed salary by Monday’s deadline in order to reach the permitted total of 15 standard contracts.

These cuts reflect the routine final-week roster reshaping that occurs across the league each October, as teams balance developmental upside, positional need, and salary-cap mechanics.

For Lundy and Poulakidas the immediate future is uncertain; both remain free agents who can pursue new opportunities with other NBA clubs, G League teams, or overseas leagues.

For the Mavericks, the next 48 hours will determine whether Powell stays or becomes the final casualty of the roster deadline, a decision that will finalize the 15-man group that opens the 2026-27 season.
