The Los Angeles Rams have terminated the practice squad contract of 26-year-old outside linebacker Jamie Sheriff, the team announced.
In the corresponding move, the team signed cornerback Damarion Williams to the practice squad. Both transactions are confined to the practice squad and do not impact the Rams’ 53-man roster.
Sheriff, a 6-foot-1, 254-pound edge rusher, joined the Rams’ practice squad on September 3 after the Seattle Seahawks waived him during final roster cuts on August 30.
His brief Los Angeles tenure lasted roughly six weeks. The Mississippi native went undrafted in 2024 out of South Alabama and initially signed with Seattle as an undrafted free agent.
He was claimed by the Carolina Panthers the following day after an early waiver, appearing in the Panthers’ Week 1 loss that season with 17 defensive snaps.
He returned to Seattle’s practice squad later that September and remained in the organization through 2025 and into 2026, when he signed a reserve/future contract before being released again in August.
Across his NFL career, Sheriff has appeared in three games—one with Carolina and two with Seattle—recording a single tackle. Despite limited regular-season production, he is a Super Bowl LX champion, having been part of the Seahawks organization that defeated the New England Patriots.
His path has been that of a classic developmental depth piece: strong preseason flashes, including ranking second in total pressures as a rookie and posting solid Pro Football Focus grades, but never securing a lasting active-roster foothold.
At South Alabama, after a junior-college stop at Mississippi Gulf Coast, Sheriff compiled 109 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks over 37 games.
He earned Defensive MVP honors in the 2023 68 Ventures Bowl, helping the Jaguars claim the program’s first bowl victory.
Scouts noted his burst—particularly a 1.63-second 10-yard split—and functional strength relative to his frame, traits that kept him on practice squads despite modest size and length for an edge rusher.
For the Rams, the move creates practice-squad flexibility while adding Williams, a 28-year-old former fourth-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens who has bounced among several organizations.
Sheriff’s release continues the fluid nature of practice-squad life for undrafted developmental players, where short stints are common as teams refine depth behind established stars.
Whether he draws interest elsewhere remains to be seen, but his Super Bowl experience and college production give him a modest résumé as he seeks his next opportunity.
