New York Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas is expected to avoid a lengthy absence after leaving Monday night’s loss with a groin and adductor injury, according to multiple reports Wednesday.
The All-Pro lineman hurt himself late in the fourth quarter of a 28-6 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium. The Giants already trailed by three scores when Thomas went to the sideline and did not return.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the injury “is not considered serious and he has a chance to return Sunday vs. the Titans, per source.” The Giants Report offered a similar account, saying Thomas “has a groin/adductor injury that he suffered Monday night vs. the Rams, but it is not considered serious, and he could return Sunday vs. the Titans.”
Coach John Harbaugh had been cautious immediately after the game. Asked about Thomas, Harbaugh said, “We’ll see about that. Again, none of these injuries are life-threatening.”
Thomas, 27, remains one of the Giants’ most important players on a line that has to protect a new starting quarterback this week. He signed a five-year, $117.5 million extension in July 2023 that made him the highest-paid offensive tackle in the league at the time. The deal is projected to push his career earnings to about $163.1 million by the time it expires.
The Georgia product was drafted fourth overall in 2020 and has started 74 of 75 regular-season games in his career. He has dealt with foot, ankle and hamstring problems in recent seasons but entered 2026 healthier than in past years and played every snap through the first two weeks before the groin injury.
New York is 1-1 heading into Sunday’s 1 p.m. home game against the winless Tennessee Titans (0-2). The Titans have scored 30 points through two games and lost to the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles.
The Thomas update was one of the few pieces of encouraging news after a night that stripped the Giants of several key contributors. Second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart left on the opening series after being hit by two Rams defenders. Tests later showed damage to his MCL, PCL and meniscus.
“Breaking: Jaxson Dart is expected to have knee surgery that will lead to a full recovery, but end his 2026 season. Dart suffered damage to his MCL, PCL and meniscus with the meniscus being the main issue,” ESPN reported.
Dart’s ACL is intact. Recovery after surgery is expected to take about six months, putting him on track for 2027.
Dart completed 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns in a Week 1 win over Dallas. He was three of five for 20 yards before leaving Monday. Veteran Jameis Winston replaced him and finished 11 of 27 for 111 yards with one interception. The Giants managed 182 total yards.
Wide receiver Malik Nabers dislocated his right shoulder late in the first quarter, popped it back into place on the sideline and returned. He finished with one catch for one yard on four targets. Edge rusher Brian Burns left late with a low-ankle sprain after a Rams lineman rolled onto his left ankle. Burns was later seen in a walking boot.
Thomas had been limited in practice last week with an ankle issue but was not listed on the final injury report before kickoff. Through two games this season he has allowed no sacks and one quarterback hit while posting a 76.8 overall PFF grade on 127 snaps, including a 79.9 run-blocking mark.
The Giants will begin preparing for the Titans with Winston under center. Their offense was built around Dart’s dual-threat ability. Protecting Winston and establishing the run will put extra weight on Thomas if he is available Sunday.
Practice reports later this week will clarify whether Thomas can play. For now, the early indication is that the Giants dodged a long-term problem on the blind side even as they lost their starting quarterback for the year.
