Eagles Linked to Potential Signing of 61.5-Sack Pass Rusher

The Philadelphia Eagles enter the 2026 season facing uncertainty along their defensive front after edge rusher Jonathan Greenard missed the entire training camp with a pectoral injury.

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio told reporters earlier this week that he does not know whether Greenard will be available when the regular season begins. That absence has left the team short on proven pass-rush options and raised questions about how the unit will generate pressure early in the year.

General manager Howie Roseman may need to explore outside help if Greenard’s recovery stretches longer than expected. One name that has surfaced as a possible low-cost addition is former Eagles standout Haason Reddick, who remains available in free agency.

Bleacher Report writer Kristopher Knox included Reddick on a recent list of bargain free agents still on the market and identified Philadelphia as a logical landing spot.

“A contract dispute led the Eagles to trade Reddick to the Jets in 2024. A reunion would make sense, as Jonathan Greenard is now dealing with a pectoral injury and could miss the start of the regular season,” Knox wrote.

Reddick spent two productive seasons in Philadelphia, recording 27 sacks and 49 quarterback hits while earning Pro Bowl recognition twice. Those numbers made him a central piece of the Eagles’ defense before his departure.

The team traded him to the New York Jets in 2024 after he sought a richer contract that the front office declined to provide. The move allowed Philadelphia to move on from the standoff and focus on other roster priorities.

His production dropped sharply after leaving. Reddick managed only 3.5 sacks across the 2024 season with the Jets and the 2025 campaign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The decline has left him searching for a chance to revive his career.

Some around the league view a return to Philadelphia as a potential fit. The Eagles operate a stable organization and could offer Reddick a familiar environment in which to contribute without requiring him to start every snap.

With Greenard sidelined, the team can lean on younger edge players such as Jalyx Hunt and Nolan Smith Jr. in the early going. Reddick could serve as a rotational piece, particularly on third downs when the defense needs an extra pass-rush threat.

There were flashes last season in Tampa Bay that suggested Reddick still possesses the burst and technique that once made him effective. Those moments keep the door open for teams willing to take a calculated risk.

Yet the history of contract friction and delayed arrivals at previous stops has left some observers wondering whether the Eagles would want to reintroduce that element into the locker room. Roseman moved on from Reddick once before, and the franchise went on to win a Super Bowl the following season.

At this stage of his career, Reddick appears to be seeking an opportunity more than a long-term payday. A short-term deal with Philadelphia could give both sides a chance to test whether the past success can be partially recaptured.

Whether Roseman pursues that path remains to be seen as the preseason continues and Greenard’s status becomes clearer. The Eagles have shown they prefer internal solutions when possible, but depth at edge rusher is becoming harder to ignore.

For now, Reddick waits while the team evaluates its options.

A reunion would close a circle that began with strong production and ended in disagreement, yet the current roster need has brought the conversation back into focus.
