The New York Yankees enter Thursday night’s series finale against the Baltimore Orioles with a chance to complete a three-game sweep after securing victories in the first two contests of the set.

Managerial adjustments to the starting lineup accompany the opportunity, with one notable shift involving first baseman Luis Garcia Jr. The veteran will occupy a different place in the batting order than he did a night earlier.

Garcia is scheduled to hit cleanup against the Orioles. He had batted third in the previous game of the series.

The move places Heliot Ramos in the third spot. Ramos had served as the cleanup hitter in the prior contest, meaning the two players are essentially trading positions in the order.

The full projected lineup begins with Trent Grisham in center field, followed by Ben Rice as the designated hitter. Ramos is next in left field, with Garcia at first base. Jazz Chisholm Jr. holds down second base, George Lombard Jr. is at shortstop, Spencer Jones is in right field, Austin Wells is behind the plate, and Jose Caballero rounds it out at third base.

Garcia joined the Yankees from the Washington Nationals during the 2026 trade deadline. The transaction brought a player with an established track record into the Bronx, yet the early returns have been uneven as he settles into his new surroundings.

In 13 games since the deal, Garcia has posted one home run, three runs batted in and a .216 batting average. Those numbers stand in contrast to the production he delivered before the trade, when he tallied 23 home runs, 76 RBI and a .283 average while wearing a Nationals uniform.

The seven-year major league veteran continues to work through the transition to the American League East. Familiarity with a new set of teammates, coaching staff and home ballpark often requires time, and the early sample size reflects that process.

Thursday’s game presents another chance for Garcia to find a rhythm. Moving into the cleanup role could alter the pitches he sees and the situations in which he comes to the plate, potentially creating different opportunities at the dish.

The Yankees have shown offensive capability in the series thus far, putting together enough production to claim the first two victories. Sustaining that momentum while experimenting with the middle of the order will be a point of focus for the coaching staff.

Ramos, for his part, steps into the three-hole after handling cleanup duties. The outfielder has demonstrated the ability to handle various spots in the lineup, and the switch simply reshuffles the existing pieces rather than introducing an entirely new configuration.

Beyond the specific change involving Garcia and Ramos, the remainder of the order remains consistent with recent patterns. Grisham leading off provides speed and on-base potential at the top, while the bottom third of the lineup features a mix of power and contact options.

Garcia’s adjustment period is not unusual for players changing teams midseason. The pressure of performing in New York, combined with the competitive demands of a division race, can amplify the challenges of settling in.

Whether the move to fourth in the order sparks improved results remains to be seen on the field. The series finale offers a stage for him to contribute immediately as the Yankees pursue a sweep of their division rival.

The Orioles will look to avoid the sweep and salvage a game on the road. For New York, locking in the series win while evaluating lineup flexibility forms part of the broader picture as the season progresses toward the stretch run.

Garcia’s overall body of work this year still includes the strong first-half numbers he posted in Washington. Integrating that form with his new club remains the central task, and small adjustments such as the batting-order switch represent one avenue the team is exploring.
