Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix finds himself at the top of a list he would rather avoid, ranked as the most overrated player in the NFL by FanSided experts just as the 2026 season approaches.

The ranking, shared widely on social media Tuesday by the account SleeperNFL, places Nix ahead of several high-profile names and has sparked immediate pushback from Broncos supporters who view it as the latest example of national media disrespect toward their young signal-caller.

According to the FanSided list circulated by SleeperNFL: “@FanSided ranks the 9 most OVERRATED players in the NFL: 1 – Bo Nix 2 – Caleb Williams 3 – Jalen Hurts 4 – Justin Herbert 5 – DK Metcalf 6 – Drake Maye 7 – Joe Burrow 8 – George Pickens 9 – Sauce Gardner. Who shouldn’t be in this list?”

Nix, selected 12th overall by the Broncos in the 2024 draft out of Oregon, has compiled a 24-10 regular-season record as a starter through two NFL campaigns. In 2024, he guided Denver to a 10-7 mark and the franchise’s first playoff appearance since 2015.

Last season, he engineered a 14-3 campaign that produced an AFC West title, the No. 1 seed in the conference and a berth in the AFC championship game.

His statistical output has been consistent if not always flashy. In 2025, Nix completed 388 of 612 passes for 3,931 yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while adding 356 rushing yards and five scores. He led the league in pass attempts and dropbacks, finishing eighth in passing yards and ninth in touchdown passes among qualified quarterbacks.

Critics of the ranking point to those numbers and the team’s rapid turnaround under head coach Sean Payton as evidence that labeling Nix overrated misses the mark. One FanSided contributor, Predominantly Orange site expert Lou Scataglia, argued in the same article that Nix is actually underrated, citing his seven game-winning drives last season and the Broncos’ second-ranked 43 dropped passes that hindered production.

Nix’s 2025 postseason performance further fueled the debate. He threw for 279 yards and three touchdowns in a 33-30 overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round before suffering a season-ending ankle injury on the final possession. Backup Jarrett Stidham started the subsequent AFC title loss to the New England Patriots.

The perception gap appears rooted in style as much as substance. Nix’s average of 6.4 yards per attempt ranked near the bottom of the league in 2025, and his completion percentage dipped from 66.3 as a rookie to 63.4. Some evaluators credit Denver’s stout defense and offensive line more than the quarterback for the wins.

Yet peers have shown growing respect. NFL players ranked Nix 59th overall on the 2026 Top 100 list, ahead of several more celebrated quarterbacks. He also ranked as high as 17th among quarterbacks in certain advanced metrics for expected points added.

Social media reaction to the SleeperNFL post was swift and largely defensive of the Broncos quarterback. Fans noted that Nix has already delivered more wins and postseason success than several members of the highly regarded 2024 quarterback class while operating with a supporting cast that has faced injuries and inconsistency at skill positions.

Heading into his third professional season, Nix is expected to benefit from the addition of speedster Jaylen Waddle, acquired via trade to stretch the field. Coach Sean Payton has indicated the quarterback will see limited snaps in the preseason as he continues to build strength in the surgically repaired ankle.

Whether the FanSided ranking represents a fair evaluation or an outdated narrative remains open to interpretation. What is clear is that Nix has transformed a franchise that languished for nearly a decade after its last Super Bowl appearance and continues to produce results that force the conversation about his place among the league’s quarterbacks.

The debate over overrated versus underrated will likely follow Nix throughout the 2026 campaign, especially if the Broncos contend again for a deep playoff run.

For now, the No. 1 ranking on this particular list stands as another chapter in a career already marked by both accomplishment and skepticism from outside Denver.
