The Atlanta Braves signed catcher Chuckie Robinson to a minor-league contract on Tuesday, bringing the veteran backstop into their organization just days after the Los Angeles Dodgers released him.
Robinson was immediately assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett, where he was slated to start behind the plate.
The 31-year-old is no stranger to the Braves. Atlanta claimed him off waivers from the Dodgers in September 2025 and kept him through the end of that regular season before outrighting him in November.
Robinson elected free agency and returned to Los Angeles on a minor-league deal that offseason. His latest reunion with Atlanta comes after the Dodgers cut him on August 12, a move that followed their additions of other catching depth.
Robinson, a right-handed hitter and thrower from Danville, Illinois, was selected by the Houston Astros in the 21st round of the 2016 draft out of Southern Mississippi.
He reached the majors with the Cincinnati Reds in 2022, later appearing with the Chicago White Sox in 2024 and the Dodgers in 2025 and 2026.
In eight games with Los Angeles this season, he went 2-for-23. His career major-league line sits at .124/.157/.176 with two home runs and six RBI across parts of four seasons. At Triple-A, he has posted more respectable numbers, including a .264/.330/.408 slash line.
Offense has never been Robinson’s calling card. Teams value him for his defensive work and ability to handle pitching staffs, qualities that have earned him repeated opportunities as organizational depth. The Braves currently have Drake Baldwin and Sean Murphy as their primary catchers on the 40-man roster.
Murphy recently returned from a fractured finger. At Gwinnett, Robinson joins fellow veterans Sandy León and Maverick Handley as non-roster insurance should an injury occur at the major-league level.
The signing adds experienced catching depth without occupying a 40-man roster spot. For Robinson, it represents another chance to stay in the game and potentially earn a call-up if needed.
The Braves, sitting in first place in the NL East, continue to stock their farm system with proven depth pieces as they navigate the stretch run.
Robinson’s familiarity with the organization and reputation for receiving should help him settle in quickly at Gwinnett.
