In the swirling speculation surrounding the Los Angeles Lakers’ roster decisions this offseason, one name continues to draw attention: Bronny James.

With his father no longer returning for the 2026-27 season, questions about the young guard’s future have intensified, and some feel he James could be on his way out of Los Angeles.

Adel Ahmad of Heavy.com, for example, has proposed a three-team trade that would send Bronny to the Philadelphia 76ers while addressing needs for both the Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers.

The proposed deal centers on Bronny’s developmental status and modest salary. As a player still finding his footing in the league, he is not expected to command significant assets in return.

In the scenario outlined by Ahmad, the Lakers would send Bronny to Philadelphia. In exchange, they would receive a 2031 second-round pick from the 76ers along with two-way guard Kris Dunn from the Clippers.

The Clippers, in turn, would acquire Jaden Hardy and Dalton Knecht from the Lakers’ side of the transaction.

This structure serves multiple purposes. For Philadelphia, the arrival of Bronny could align with interest from the team’s veteran star leadership, offering a young piece with name recognition and upside. For the Lakers, the addition of Dunn addresses a clear defensive gap in the backcourt.

At 32, Dunn is a seasoned perimeter defender who logged heavy minutes the previous season, averaging roughly seven points and four assists across 82 games. His presence would provide immediate toughness and experience on a roster that has lacked consistent guard defense.

At the same time, moving Bronny and the other young players would help the Lakers navigate roster limits as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Ahmad notes that simply dealing Bronny to the 76ers in isolation holds little incentive for Los Angeles unless multiple draft picks were involved—an unrealistic expectation given the player’s current standing. The three-team construction creates mutual benefit.

The Clippers, shifting toward a younger core, gain promising talent in Hardy and Knecht, while the Lakers secure a useful veteran and a future pick without simply giving away a roster spot.

Bronny’s $2.3 million salary for 2026-27 was guaranteed shortly before his father’s decision not to return. He carries a team option for the following year, meaning Los Angeles retains flexibility. If the Lakers choose to keep him, the 21-year-old faces a critical third season outside his father’s direct shadow—an opportunity to prove himself. Should development stall, trade conversations will only grow louder.

The package described by Ahmad remains speculative, yet it illustrates a pragmatic path forward. By packaging Bronny with complementary assets and targeting a defensive contributor like Dunn, the Lakers could reshape their roster in a single transaction that balances short-term needs with longer-term roster management.

Whether such a deal ever materializes depends on the priorities of all three front offices, but the outline provides a clear window into how Bronny James might realistically change teams this summer.
