The New York Yankees are absolutely loaded with pitching prospects, with Carlos Lagrange, Elmer Rodriguez and Ben Hess representing the cream of the crop in their system.
However, the Yankees have plenty of depth there, as well, and one name that has been monitored for several years now is Henry Lalane.
Lalane missed almost all of last season due to shoulder surgery, which caused his stock to dip a bit. However, the wiry 6-foot-7 left-hander has re-emerged with a vengeance in 2026.
In his last start on June 26, Lalane allowed just one hit through seven innings, racking up 12 strikeouts for Single-A Tampa. It marked the longest outing of his season and also represented the third straight game he lasted six or more frames.
On the campaign overall, Lalane has logged a 3.09 ERA and 1.066 WHIP, allowing just 37 hits while racking up 70 strikeouts over 55.1 innings of work.
The 22-year-old joined the Yankees’ system in 2021 and owns a lifetime 3.49 ERA and 1.205 WHIP, averaging 10.4 strikeouts per nine innings.
Command has frequently been an issue for Lalane, as evidenced by his career 4.0 BB/9. However, he appears to be harnessing his control this season and has already achieved a career-high in innings pitched.
The southpaw is still a long way away from reaching the big leagues, and New York is surely prioritizing numerous other arms in the system ahead of him. But he is clearly making significant strides.
In fact, there is a chance that the Yankees could include Lalane in trade offers between now and the MLB trade deadline. Surely, there would be plenty of teams interested in the Bronx native.
New York’s big-league club needs relief help and could also use another bat or two, so Lalane could ultimately be floated in trade talks.
We’ll see if Lalane’s name is mentioned in the coming weeks.
The trade deadline is on Aug. 3.
