The Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up for a transformative offseason after wrapping up the 2025 NFL campaign with a 6-11 record, marking their first playoff absence in ten years.
This underwhelming performance has sparked discussions about potential roster overhauls, with priorities centered on generating salary cap flexibility and filling evident weaknesses across the lineup.
A significant concern involves star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who sustained a serious knee injury—a torn ACL—during a Week 15 matchup, potentially sidelining him at the beginning of the upcoming season.
The organization is also closely monitoring the upcoming choice from longtime tight end Travis Kelce regarding his playing future, as the 36-year-old wraps up his 13th year in the league and considers stepping away.
Kelce has emerged as a central figure in conversations around the team since the year concluded, with retirement remaining a realistic option despite his ongoing effectiveness on the field.
Throughout the season, he accumulated over 850 yards receiving along with five touchdowns, demonstrating he still contributes meaningfully.
Recently, the Chiefs highlighted another milestone for Kelce via their social channels, announcing that he eclipsed former running back Priest Holmes to become the franchise’s all-time leader in points scored among non-kickers, ending the year at 522 points.

On a recent installment of the “New Heights” podcast, co-hosted with his brother Jason, Kelce opened up about his plans moving forward.
He explained his intention to prioritize rest and rehabilitation in the coming weeks or possibly a month prior to reaching a conclusive choice, while indicating the team’s leadership is already aware of his current mindset.
“They know where I stand, at least right now,” Kelce said. “If my body can heal up and rest up and I can feel confident that I can go out there and give it another 18-, 20-, 21-week run, I’d do it in a heartbeat.”
With Mahomes focused on recovery from surgery and Kelce weighing his options, the Chiefs face critical decisions that could reshape the franchise in the months ahead.
