New LSU head coach Lane Kiffin has wasted no time making his mark on the Tigers’ roster. Known for his bold statements and aggressive recruiting style, Kiffin vowed to dominate the transfer portal this offseason, and early developments show he is backing up those words.
One of the most divisive figures in college football, Kiffin is already reshaping the program. His efforts began in earnest over the weekend, starting with retaining a key player before securing his inaugural portal commitment.
On Saturday, LSU successfully retained standout tight end Trey’Dez Green through a new agreement. This move ensured the talented pass-catcher remains in Baton Rouge, providing continuity for the offense.
The following day brought even bigger news. LSU landed its first official transfer portal addition under Kiffin: dynamic wide receiver Jackson Harris.
Harris, a native of Berkeley, California, spent his initial two college seasons at Stanford. There, opportunities were limited amid the program’s challenges, yielding modest production.
Seeking a better fit, Harris moved to Hawaii ahead of the 2025 campaign. With the Rainbow Warriors, he finally unlocked his potential in a system that highlighted his skills.
During his breakout year, Harris recorded 49 receptions for 963 yards and an impressive 12 touchdowns. His dominance stood out further considering he appeared in just 10 contests.
Opting out of the Hawaii Bowl matchup against his hometown California Golden Bears, Harris focused on preparing for the portal. He aimed to join a contender vying for the College Football Playoff in 2026.
A weekend visit to LSU’s campus proved decisive. Harris committed without scheduling further trips, becoming the pioneering transfer in the Kiffin era at LSU.
Kiffin signaled more activity ahead by posting “just getting started” following Green’s retention.
With the portal window closing on Friday, Jan. 16, the Tigers’ rebuild continues, particularly at quarterback after Michael Van Buren Jr.’s departure.
