Newly appointed LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin has a critical task ahead: securing a starting quarterback for the upcoming 2026 campaign.

With Garrett Nussmeier’s eligibility exhausted following his time at LSU, the program anticipates a vigorous hunt for signal-callers through the transfer portal during this offseason.

In his initial college year, the young passer accumulated 1,915 passing yards, along with 12 scores through the air and nine picks, while contributing 101 rushing yards. This past season, Lagway built on that foundation by recording 2,264 yards passing, 16 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions, plus 136 yards and one rushing touchdown for a Florida team that ended with a 4-8 record.

On December 15, Lagway shared his plans to join the transfer portal starting January 2, a move that followed Florida’s decision to bring in Jon Sumrall from Tulane as head coach.

“I am truly grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such an incredible program here at the University of Florida,” Lagway. “After much prayer, reflection, and thoughtful consideration, I have decided to enter the transfer portal.”

Former Gators coach Steve Spurrier even floated Baylor as a possible destination, noting Lagway’s roots in Willis, Texas. As Kiffin builds his roster in Baton Rouge, the pursuit of a reliable quarterback will dominate headlines.
