The Buffalo Bills experienced a tense moment during their recent matchup against the Cleveland Browns when star quarterback Josh Allen left the field, raising fears of a serious ankle issue.
This occurred late in the first half as Allen scrambled in his own end zone, narrowly avoiding a safety while under heavy pressure from Browns defender Myles Garrett.
After falling awkwardly, Allen signaled discomfort in his ankle area and headed straight to the locker room for evaluation, bypassing the sideline medical tent—a positive indicator that the problem might not be severe.
X-rays were performed on his foot, and the results came back negative, allowing him to return and complete the game without missing any snaps.
Despite finishing the contest, the Bills are proceeding cautiously with their franchise player as they prepare for a crucial upcoming game.
On Tuesday, head coach Sean McDermott confirmed that Allen would sit out practice due to lingering soreness in the foot.
“No real changes, today was just a chance to… see how he’s feeling today. Obviously sore,” McDermott said.
While the ongoing discomfort is not ideal, especially with postseason implications hanging in the balance against a strong Philadelphia Eagles team, the outlook remains optimistic. McDermott has indicated that Allen is anticipated to suit up for the Sunday contest against the Eagles.
“Yes, I’ll be planning on playing,” Allen said.
The team’s Tuesday session was limited to a light walk-through, adjusted due to the holiday schedule with Christmas landing on Thursday. Several other players also did not take part, including defensive tackle Jordan Phillips, kicker Matt Prater, safety Jordan Poyer, defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, tight end Dalton Kincaid, defensive back Cam Lewis, and defensive end Joey Bosa.
Meanwhile, Buffalo secured its seventh consecutive playoff berth following the Indianapolis Colts’ defeat on Monday night. This achievement keeps alive a faint possibility of overtaking the New England Patriots, who lead the AFC East at 12-3.
For the Bills to claim the division crown and earn a sixth straight title, they must win their remaining two contests while hoping the Patriots drop at least one of theirs.
