After a whirlwind few weeks filled with rumors, LSU has officially secured its next leader.

On Sunday, Lane Kiffin confirmed he is stepping down as head coach at Ole Miss to take over the Tigers’ program in Baton Rouge.

Kiffin departs Oxford with an impressive 55-19 record over six years, including three postseason victories, and will now succeed Brian Kelly, who was dismissed last month following a disappointing 5-3 beginning to the season.

The Tigers entered the year with legitimate national-title aspirations, but a shocking 49-25 defeat to Texas A&M—in which LSU held an 18-14 halftime advantage—derailed their playoff hopes almost immediately.

Pulling Kiffin away from a conference foe represents a massive coup for LSU, yet the transition is already creating ripples within the roster.

Within hours of the announcement, On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported that highly touted freshman wide receiver Kylan Billiot intends to enter the transfer portal.

“BREAKING: LSU WR Kylan Billiot plans to enter the @TransferPortal, per his agency @SetVisionMgmt,” Fawcett wrote on X.

“The 6’3 195 WR was ranked as a Top 100 Recruit in the 2024 Class. Will have 3 years of eligibility remaining.”

Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 195 pounds, Billiot was the No. 4 prospect in Louisiana, the nation’s No. 13 wide receiver, and the No. 62 overall player in the 2024 cycle, per 247Sports rankings.

The young wideout has yet to appear in a game this fall, and sources indicate he is uneasy about fitting into Kiffin’s new offensive scheme, which will feature offensive coordinator Charlie Weiss Jr., co-offensive coordinator Joe Cox, and wide receivers coach Sawyer Jordan.

On the bright side for LSU fans, the program has promising depth waiting in the wings, including four-star 2026 signees Jabari Mack and Kenny Darby, as well as three-star standout Kervin Johnson Jr., all capable of stepping into larger roles moving forward.
