The Georgia Bulldogs capped off their regular season in dramatic fashion, holding off in-state rival Georgia Tech 16-9 in the latest edition of “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate” on Saturday night in Athens.
With the victory, the No. 4-ranked Bulldogs wrapped up an 11-1 campaign—their only blemish a September defeat to No. 10 Alabama—and secured a spot in the SEC Championship Game on December 6, where they’ll have an opportunity to avenge that earlier loss against the Crimson Tide.
Celebrations, however, were tempered just a day later when news broke that a promising member of Georgia’s secondary is heading elsewhere.
“BREAKING: Georgia CB Daniel Harris plans to enter the @TransferPortal, he tells @On3Sports,” Hayes Fawcett wrote on X. “The 6’3 195 CB totaled 30 Tackles, & 3 PD in his time with the Bulldogs. He appeared in 20+ games (started 12) and will have 1 year of eligibility left.”
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound junior saw limited action in 2025, appearing in only three contests and recording seven tackles. In coverage, Pro Football Focus credited him with 81 snaps, during which he surrendered six completions on nine targets for 154 yards and two touchdowns.
A former four-star prospect, Harris was ranked as the No. 158 overall player and the No. 32 cornerback in the 2023 recruiting cycle by the 247Sports Composite. When the transfer portal officially opens next week, the lengthy and physical defensive back is expected to draw significant interest from programs across the country.
At the moment, Oregon’s Dakota Fields and LSU’s Ashton Stamps—both former three-star recruits—are listed as the top two cornerbacks in On3’s transfer portal rankings, meaning Harris has a strong chance to vault near the top of the board once he officially enters.
For Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs, the departure represents another reminder of the new realities of college football, even as they prepare for a high-stakes rematch with Alabama with College Football Playoff positioning on the line.
