The New York Giants dropped to a 2-6 record after suffering a 38-20 defeat against their division foes, the Philadelphia Eagles (now 6-2), during Sunday’s Week 8 matchup.

Compounding the setback, the team lost standout first-year running back Cam Skattebo to a significant injury.

Selected in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft from Arizona State, Skattebo had quickly made his mark in the league, racking up 410 rushing yards and five scores while earning admiration from supporters.

The mishap happened with 8:09 left in the second quarter, as New York trailed 14-7. Quarterback and fellow newcomer Jaxson Dart launched a throw across the middle toward Skattebo, who faced tight coverage from elite linebacker Zach Baun.

As the ball approached, Baun seemed to coil around Skattebo’s rear, disrupting the potential reception and causing the young back’s frame to twist unnaturally rearward.

Skattebo clutched his helmet right away, with his left foot visibly rotated in an alarming direction. Initial reports on Sunday confirmed a dislocated ankle, and by Tuesday, the organization outlined its strategy for the player’s recovery.

According to team insider Dan Salomone, Skattebo has been added to the Injured Reserve roster. This means he’ll sit out the remainder of the campaign, though there’s strong hope for a complete return to form ahead of the 2026 campaign.

It’s a devastating blow for a Giants team that had started playing much better. Led by Jaxson Dart, New York will need to figure out how to keep the offense playing at a higher level without Skattebo on the field.

While the injury is disappointing, New York is still in good shape. Dart and Skattebo leading the way into the future will give the Giants a fighting chance of turning things around.
