The Los Angeles Chargers moved to a 5-3 record after a strong primetime victory on Thursday night. The win was a solid rebound for Jim Harbaugh and his team, who had suffered a 38-24 defeat to Daniel Jones and the 6-1 Indianapolis Colts in Week 7.

Harbaugh is now in his second year leading the Chargers. In his first season, the former AP Coach of the Year guided the team to an impressive 11-6 record, securing the No. 2 seed in the AFC West.

However, their postseason journey ended abruptly with a 32-12 loss to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round.

Before becoming an NFL head coach, Harbaugh had a notable career as a quarterback in the league and later coached the San Francisco 49ers from 2011 to 2014. His standout year as a player came in 1995 with the Indianapolis Colts, earning him a Pro Bowl nod and a fourth-place finish in MVP voting.

That season, Harbaugh completed 200 of 314 passes (63.7%) for 2,575 yards and a career-high 17 touchdowns. He also led the Colts to the Conference Championship, where they fell 20-16 to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Following the Chargers’ recent win over Minnesota, the NFL highlighted Harbaugh’s remarkable achievement on social media.

“Jim Harbaugh becomes the 2nd person in NFL history with 60+ regular season wins as a starting QB and as a head coach, joining HOF Norm Van Brocklin,” the post read.

The Thursday victory marked Harbaugh’s 16th win as the Chargers’ head coach, adding to the 44 wins he amassed during his four seasons with the 49ers. This brings his total head-coaching wins to 60. As a starting quarterback, Harbaugh holds a 64-74-0 record.

This milestone underscores Harbaugh’s impressive shift from a successful NFL quarterback to a highly effective head coach. He’ll have an opportunity to build on this record when the Chargers face the Tennessee Titans on the road in Week 9.
