Steelers Blasted for Major Error in Aaron Rodgers Pursuit

The Pittsburgh Steelers do not have a quarterback at the moment, but they seem to be the frontrunners to sign Aaron Rodgers. The problem is that they don’t seem to have much of a sense of urgency.

Rodgers met with the Steelers on Friday, but he left without a contract. This has led Rich Eisen to wonder just how much Pittsburgh actually wants the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback.

“If you want to sign someone, you don’t want them to leave the building,” Eisen said on his own show.

To be fair, Rodgers doesn’t really have a ton of options. The Minnesota Vikings don’t want him, and while the New York Giants are in play, it seems hard to imagine that the 40-year-old would prefer a squad that just went 4-13 over a playoff team that just added D.K. Metcalf.

So perhaps the Steelers are attempting to play some hardball here. They just need to hope that it doesn’t blow up in their faces.

For all of the talk about how much Rodgers declined in 2024, he still managed to throw for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns while with a dysfunctional New York Jets team. He was better than Russell Wilson was this past year, and he would surely represent a major upgrade for Pittsburgh under center.

The idea of Aaron Rodgers throwing to Metcalf and George Pickens is certainly tantalizing, and the addition of the four-time MVP could very well make the Steelers favorites to win the AFC North.

But right now, everything is still up in the air, and Pittsburgh may bear some responsibility for that.
