Raiders Named Top Destination for Former 1,000-Yard WR

The Las Vegas Raiders haven’t been able to do a whole lot for their weaponry this offseason. As a matter of fact, outside of signing declining running back Raheem Mostert, they haven’t added a single playmaker for new quarterback Geno Smith.

That isn’t exactly ideal, considering that the Raiders have no proven depth behind Jakobi Meyers at wide receiver, and Meyers himself isn’t a true No. 1.

Las Vegas struck out on D.K. Metcalf, and it also wasn’t able to bag Tee Higgins or Chris Godwin, who both ultimately stayed with their respective teams.

Now, the remaining pool is rather thin for the Raiders, particularly in free agency. There are still some options available, though, and Cory Woodroof of USA Today has identified the best possible fit for Las Vegas: former Seattle Seahawks wide out Tyler Lockett.

“Lockett can rejoin coach Pete Carroll and quarterback Geno Smith in Las Vegas, as both know how dangerous Lockett can be, even at this point in his career,” Woodroof wrote.

Of course, Carroll coached Lockett for years in Seattle, so he is very familiar with the receiver. Plus, Smith was Lockett’s quarterback the past three seasons.

Lockett is coming off of a 2024 campaign in which he caught 49 passes for 600 yards and a couple of touchdowns, serving as the Seahawks’ No. 3 receiver behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Metcalf.

The 32-year-old posted four straight 1,000-yard campaigns between 2019 and 2022, but has fallen below that market in each of the last two seasons.

Yes, Lockett is definitely on the downside of his career, but at this point, the Raiders may not have much of a choice as far as adding veteran talent.

Las Vegas will probably try to add a wide receiver in the NFL Draft next month, but Lockett could very well represent the team’s best available option in free agency.
