NFL Rumors: Potential Indianapolis Colts QB Targets

Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard speaks to the media during the 2025 NFL draft.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that the Colts are considering several veteran quarterbacks, including Daniel Jones, Justin Fields, Trey Lance, and Jacoby Brissett, to build a supportive environment for young quarterback Anthony Richardson.

“This is a mix of quarterbacks who can support Anthony Richardson and guys who will be looking to start games somewhere,” Fowler stated. “I’ve heard Jones’ name more than once in regards to the Colts.”

Daniel Jones, who played as a backup for the Minnesota Vikings after being released by the New York Giants, has emerged as a notable candidate.

Indianapolis Colts’ Plans for Anthony Richardson

Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell (46) pressures Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (5) during the first half at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024.

In his second year with the Colts, Richardson has shown potential but has yet to realize the expectations set for him entirely. Last season, he made 11 starts, amassing 1,814 passing yards with eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also added 499 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground. Despite these mixed results, the Colts remain committed to his development.

“The Indianapolis has not given up on Richardson, but how the team approaches the free agency period will be telling,” said Fowler.

The Colts’ actions in the coming months will be crucial in shaping their offensive approach. The decision to bring in a veteran quarterback could provide Richardson with the mentorship needed to enhance his skills and confidence on the field.

As the Colts prepare for the 2025 season, the quarterback decisions made during this offseason will be instrumental in defining the team’s direction and Richardson’s role. Whether adding a veteran like Jones or another candidate from their list, Indianapolis is focused on fostering a competitive and supportive quarterback room.
