The Dallas Cowboys are considering a familiar face for their next head coach. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the team has officially requested an interview with Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Rapoport described Moore as “one of the top candidates” for the position.

Moore, who spent several years with the Cowboys, will interview with Dallas on Friday, according to Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz. This comes ahead of the Eagles’ Divisional Round playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams.

A former NFL backup quarterback, Moore played his final three seasons with the Cowboys before transitioning into coaching. In 2018, he joined the Cowboys’ coaching staff as quarterbacks coach, and by the following year, he was promoted to offensive coordinator. When Mike McCarthy took over as head coach in 2020, Moore remained in his role for three more seasons.

After the 2022 season, Moore and the Cowboys mutually parted ways, and he moved to the Los Angeles Chargers under head coach Brandon Staley. However, after Staley was fired and the Chargers hired Jim Harbaugh, Moore became available and eventually joined the Eagles’ coaching staff.

Under Moore’s guidance, the Eagles’ offense has thrived. The team averaged 367.2 total yards and 27.2 points per game in the regular season. Their 179.3 rushing yards per game ranked second in the NFL, and running back Saquon Barkley rushed for a league-leading 2,005 yards.

In addition to Moore, the Cowboys are reportedly planning interviews with former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh and Seattle Seahawks assistant Leslie Frazier as part of their search for a new head coach.

After finishing the 2024 season with a 7-10 record and missing the playoffs, the Cowboys are looking for a coach to lead the team back to contention and provide a much-needed boost for their passionate fan base.
