Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy is in custody following an investigation into a fatal car crash that occurred on December 17 in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana.
Lacy, 24, surrendered to authorities on Sunday evening and was booked into the Lafourche Parish jail on charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle.
Louisiana State Police allege that Lacy was speeding along LA Highway 20 in Chackbay, crossing the centerline in a no-passing zone. Two oncoming vehicles swerved to avoid his Dodge Charger, but one collided head-on with another car, resulting in the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall. Authorities say Lacy fled the scene without rendering aid or notifying emergency services.
According to Lafourche Parish jail records, Lacy turned himself in at 6:53 p.m. Sunday and was released on $151,000 bond by 8:11 p.m..
Lacy was a standout wide receiver for LSU during the 2024 season, recording 58 catches for 866 yards and nine touchdowns in 12 games. A Louisiana native, Lacy began his college career at Louisiana-Lafayette before transferring to LSU, where he played for the past three seasons.
He declared for the NFL Draft shortly after graduating in December but did not participate in LSU’s Texas Bowl win over Baylor on December 31.
Lacy’s attorney has communicated with authorities, but the name of his legal representation has not been disclosed. LSU spokesperson Michael Bonnette stated that the university has “no comment at this time out of respect for the legal process.”
The charges against Lacy include negligent homicide, a felony that carries serious legal implications. The case has drawn widespread attention due to Lacy’s status as a prominent college football player preparing for a professional career.
