Miami Heat, Kevin Love Optimistic on Working Out New Deal

Kevin Love, Miami Heat

Miami Heat veteran big man Kevin Love is entering free agency. He opted to decline the $4 million player option on his contract, which means he will be hitting the open market.

However, he isn’t expected to be there very long. According to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, both sides feel good about a new deal being worked out to keep Kevin Love on South Beach.

The moratorium for the league begins on Sunday and contracts can officially be signed on July 6th. We have already seen several deals around the NBA be agreed upon, as teams were allowed to negotiate with their own free agents right after the NBA Finals concluded.

Kevin Love remains a productive part of the Miami Heat rotation. Turning 36 in September, he averaged a solid 8.8 points and 6.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists in only 16.8 minutes per game. He was able to play in 55 regular season games, starting five.

The last season and a half Kevin Love has spent with the Miami Heat. He was acquired by them after the Cleveland Cavaliers bought him out on February 18th, 2023. Previously, he had spent eight seasons with the Cavaliers, who acquired him in a trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2014.

A five-time All-Star and NBA Champion in 2016 with the Cavaliers, Kevin Love brings veteran leadership to the team. He has proven to be a great fit with the franchise, embodying everything in Heat Culture.

Still a solid 3-point shooter, rebounder and playmaker, Kevin Love would help a lot of teams around the NBA. But, it sounds like he has no intentions of truly testing the market, as re-upping on a multi-year deal with the Miami Heat seems to be what he is leaning toward.
