ESPN recently spoke about how all of the teams in the NBA could nail their offseason. What do the Memphis Grizzlies have to do to achieve this?
It was a brutal season for the Memphis Grizzlies last year. Due to a multitude of injuries, the Grizzlies never stood a chance in the Western Conference. For a team that was on the rise, injuries certainly paused what this team could have accomplished last season.
However, with a bad season does come a high draft pick, and the Grizzlies will be selecting 9th overall, which is something that wouldn’t have happened if they stayed healthy last season.
Recently, ESPN spoke about how the Memphis Grizzlies could nail their offseason, here’s what they had to say.
Nothing is more important for the Grizzlies than a return to health after their players missed a league-high 561 games to injury or illness last season — 185 more than the next-highest team.
Memphis must next find help at center after dealing the injured Adams to Houston last season, using either the No. 9 pick or a portion of the non-taxpayer midlevel exception. If UConn’s Donovan Clingan drops on draft night, the Grizzlies should be prepared to move up to add him. — Kevin Pelton
Having an asset like a Top-10 pick is massive for the Memphis Grizzlies this offseason. With a core of Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, and Jaren Jackson Jr., the Grizzlies already have an excellent young trio on the roster.
As ESPN mentions, getting some help at the center position in the form of Donovan Clingan would be great. At UConn, Clingan proved to not only be an excellent defender, but also a contributor in the offense.
While Clingan’s draft stock is a bit murky, he will certainly be a top-10 pick. Some reports even have him in the mix to be the No. 1 pick.
If the Grizzlies prioritize him, he would be an excellent addition. If Clingan isn’t the answer for the Memphis Grizzlies, just simply getting healthy and staying healthy will propel them back into the playoff conversation in the Western Conference.
