San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is the gold standard of players at his position. He is as dominant as a pass catcher as he is a ball carrier, an offensive hub for Kyle Shanahan to run his attack through.
The reigning Offensive Playe of the Year has shown zero signs of slowing down any time soon. The San Francisco 49ers have opted to reward him for his production, as it was announced on Tuesday that an extension was worked out.
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, the two sides agreed to a two-year extension that will average $19 million annually. $24 million in guarantees was added, as he will make $8 million more than he was scheduled to in the first two years.

This is another historic deal, as the running back market has been reset again. After some issues were raised about players at the position being underpaid during the 2023 NFL offseason, things have boomed in 2024.
Christian McCaffrey is the latest running back to sign a massive multi-year extension. Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs, Tony Pollard and D’Andre Swift all signed multi-year contracts this offseason averaging at least $7 million annually.
Those players are all talented in their own rights, but Christian McCaffrey deserves to be in a league of his own when it comes to contracts. He has been dominant with the San Francisco 49ers after being acquired from the Carolina Panthers in a trade ahead of the 2022 deadline.
To land him, San Francisco traded second, third and fourth-round picks in the 2023 NFL Draft, along with a 2024 fifth-round selection. While running back isn’t a position teams invest heavily in any longer, he was well worth the price.
In 27 games, he has carried the ball 431 times for 2,205 yards and 20 touchdowns. He led the NFL with 1,459 rushing yards last season. 119 receptions for 1,028 yards and 11 more scores round out his impressive stat line.
