Toronto Blue Jays Rumors: Star Players Unlikely to be Traded

Toronto Blue Jays rumors have started picking up recently. With the team in last place in the AL East, 12.5 games behind the New York Yankees, they are one franchise people are keeping a close eye on with the MLB trade deadline getting closer and closer.

Toronto is only 4.5 games out of a Wild Card spot, so their playoff hopes are far from over. But, that isn’t going to stop other teams around the league from at least inquiring and seeing where the Blue Jays could be at.

Two of the players garnering interest are cornerstones Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette. It should come as no surprise that most of the Blue Jays rumors have involved them. However, general manager Ross Atkins put a rest to that over the weekend.

“There will be occasional times when you’re talking to other executives when they’ll ask if you’d consider it, and we just say it’s not something that we have spent any time on,” Atkins told MLB Network Radio on Sunday. “Because they are so talented and such great teammates, they are attractive to other teams, so they will call.” (H/T ESPN)

Atkins added that “it just doesn’t make any sense for us,” to make deals involving those two players. Under contract through 2025, the team certainly isn’t in a rush to move arguably their two best position players.

Instead of looking to trade them away, Toronto is looking to lock them in long-term. Atkins also shared that discussions have been held about contract extensions for each player.

“Of course, we have dialogue with them, and that is something that will continue,” Atkins told MLB Network Radio. “We believe in them. We believe in their futures and hope that there is a way they can play here for a long time.” (H/T ESPN)

Blue Jays rumors certainly aren’t going to slow down, especially if the team’s performance on the field doesn’t turn around. But, regardless of how the team performs, it sounds like Guerrero and Bichette are in their immediate and long-term plans.
