The Indiana Fever fell to 1-7 in the 2024 WNBA season with their loss to the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday night. It was a highly anticipated matchup, as the first two picks in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Caitlin Clark and Cameron Brink, were facing off.
Brink didn’t have her best game, going 1-for-5 from the field and finishing with three points, three rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal. But, Caitlin Clark had her best game to date as a professional.
She scored 30 points while grabbing five rebounds with six assists, three steals and three blocks. It was a historic stat line for the Iowa product, as the only blemish was the seven turnovers committed.
However, it wasn’t the impressive stat line that her coach Christie Sides focused on after the game. Instead, she called out Caitlin Clark for the technical foul she received with 2.7 seconds remaining in the first quarter for arguing with referees about a foul call.
“We’re spending too much time talking to the officials,” Sides said, per the Fever’s YouTube account. “We’ve got to leave that alone. We’ve got to just play our game and let them do their job and not put it in their hands… We shouldn’t get technicals. Let me get the technicals.”
That is already the second technical foul that Caitlin Clark has been given this season. She was assessed a technical that time around for also yelling at a referee, saying, “It’s a f—ing foul,” after a turnover.
That one against the Connecticut Sun was even more detrimental. It came with 3:37 remaining in a game the Indiana Fever were leading by one point.

Fans of the Indiana Fever are already growing tired of Sides, who is in her second season as head coach. One user on X called her out in reply to her comments about Caitlin Clark’s technical, while another called her out for her lack of accountability.
At 1-7, this certainly isn’t the start anyone was hoping for, especially with Caitlin Clark in the mix. But, some brighter days could be on the horizon as the schedule lightens up for the Indiana Fever and some more rest days will be mixed in.
