Chicago White Sox Rumors: Luis Robert Jr. Won’t Be Traded

Chicago White Sox rumors are going to get louder the closer we get to the MLB Trade Deadline. Owners of the worst record in baseball at 15-40, Chicago will assuredly be sellers ahead of the deadline. But, one player who may not be available is centerfielder Luis Robert Jr.

The White Sox have not been shy about moving veterans in the last year or so. Lucas Giolito, Lance Lynn and Dylan Cease were all traded as the team is in the early stages of a rebuild. But, if recent White Sox rumors are to be believed, Luis Robert Jr. isn’t going anywhere.

The star centerfielder is easily the best trade chip on the roster. But, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, he is the only player they are showing any hesitancy in involving in trade talks.

“The Chicago White Sox are resisting all temptation to trade center fielder Luis Robert Jr., who is scheduled to return in June after being sidelined two months,” Nightengale wrote on May 26. “Robert may be their best trade asset but he’s only 26 and is under team control through the 2027 season.”

Coming off a career season in 2023, Luis Robert Jr. has played in only seven games thus far in 2024. He suffered a right hip flexor strain that has kept him sidelined and left the Chicago offense punchless. Without their best player, manufacturing runs have been difficult.

The White Sox are dead last in the majors in runs scored with 158; the next closest is the St. Louis Cardinals with 201. By today’s standard of offense, this is a historically poor-performing lineup that has been shut out 10 times already.

While they are avoiding the temptation of trading Luis Robert Jr. at this point, don’t expect White Sox rumors to slow down any time soon. Teams will still call about him and if Chicago is offered an overwhelming package, they could change their mind.
