Monday was a big day for NBA draft prospect Bronny James. The son of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is looking to carve out a path of his own in basketball and received some major news regarding that.

Ahead of his freshman season at USC, Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest. He underwent a procedure to fix a congenital heart defect last August, that put a pause on his basketball career.

But, he was able to get on the court for the Trojans as a freshman. His professional career will continue as well, as it was announced on Monday that Bronny James is medically cleared to be selected in the 2024 NBA Draft by the NBA’s Fitness to Play panel.

Word is expected to be sent out to the franchises on Monday after James was evaluated and unanimously approved by three physicians. That is excellent news as he can now be a full participant in the NBA Combine this week.

That is huge news, as the plan is for him to participate in 5-on-5 scrimmages at the combine as early as Tuesday. He will be someone people are keeping a close eye on this week and throughout the pre-draft process, as he isn’t going back to college.

In addition to the positive update on his clearance, basketball analyst Jeff Goodman revealed on X, with an update from NBA insider Shams Charania, that Bronny James will be remaining in the 2024 NFL Draft. James was in the transfer portal, as he wasn’t returning to USC, but will forgo the remainder of his eligibility to turn pro.

The deadline to remove his name from the NBA Draft was May 29th. Given his production or lack thereof, as a freshman at USC, there will be some pressure on Bronny James to play at a high level during the combine and in workouts.
