According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the New York Knicks could pursue a trade for Portland Trail Blazers guard Malcolm Brogdon.

The Knicks are looking for a guard to fortify their bench after trading Immanuel Quickley to the Toronto Raptors in the OG Anunoby trade.

“Brogdon’s name has been mentioned as a potential Knicks target in their well-chronicled search for a guard to fortify their bench ever since they were forced to surrender Immanuel Quickley to Toronto in the Anunoby trade,” Stein wrote.

According to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Blazers are “more likely” to trade Brogdon than Jerami Grant. Portland isn’t a lock to trade Brogdon, but the veteran guard would be moved before Grant.

“As a result, rival executives say Portland is viewing Grant as a positive trade asset, whereas some were hoping the Blazers would sell high on Grant early in his five-year contract as more of a neutral asset,” Scotto wrote. “Thus, executives believe Blazers guard Malcolm Brogdon is more likely to be dealt than Grant if Portland makes a trade at the deadline since he’s considered less expensive to acquire. Rival executives who spoke with HoopsHype believe a fair asking price for Brogdon is a first-round pick and salary filler.”

Brogdon is averaging 15.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.2 blocks this season while shooting 43.7% from the field, 41.2% from beyond the arc and 80.4% from the free-throw line. He’s making $22.5 million.

The Knicks (26-17), who are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings, could start Jalen Brunson, Brogdon, Anunoby, Julius Randle and Isaiah Hartenstein if New York’s front office figured out a way to acquire Brogdon from Portland.

Brogdon has career averages of 15.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.2 blocks with the Milwaukee Bucks, Indiana Pacers, Boston Celtics and Blazers. He won the 2016-17 Rookie of the Year Award with the Bucks and the 2022-23 Sixth Man of the Year Award with the Celtics.
