In a strong display of teamwork, the Los Angeles Clippers triumphed over the Miami Heat with a 121-104 victory during Monday’s NBA action, led by Kawhi Leonard’s 24 points in his return from a hip contusion.

The Clippers continued their impressive form, following an 11-2 record in December, with Paul George contributing 23 points and Norman Powell adding 22 from the bench. James Harden also played a pivotal role with 15 points and 10 assists.

“It’s better when you try to figure it out winning than trying to figure out losing. That’s what was happening earlier,” Harden said. “Every single game, we’re trying to find ways to win games. Then towards the end of the season, we’ll understand what we’re really good at and what we’re not.”

Reflecting on the team’s turnaround since their November struggles, Harden emphasized the importance of learning from victories rather than losses. Leonard’s return, after a four-game absence, was a significant boost for the Clippers. He achieved a personal milestone, reaching 13,000 career points, and contributed six rebounds and five assists before sitting out the last part of the game.

“You saw the performance, both ends of the ball just elite,” Harden said of Leonard. “Shotmaking, defensively being active, creating opportunities in transition. We missed him.”

Leonard initially had a quiet start, going scoreless in the first quarter, but he found his rhythm in the second, scoring 13 points and helping the Clippers overturn a 14-point deficit to lead at halftime. Clippers coach Tyronn Lue praised Leonard’s performance, especially his impact in the second quarter.

“It was really good to see him get going,” Lue said.

For Miami, Bam Adebayo led with 21 points and 15 rebounds, while Kevin Love added 17 points from the bench. Kyle Lowry also returned to the lineup with eight points after recovering from a head contusion. However, the Heat were missing key players including Jimmy Butler, Josh Richardson, and Caleb Martin due to injuries.

The Clippers gained momentum in the third quarter, extending their lead with contributions from Harden and Terance Mann. George’s back-to-back 3-pointers were also crucial in maintaining their lead.

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, noted the need for defensive improvements, especially in one-on-one situations. The Heat, led by Duncan Robinson and Love, had a strong start in the first quarter but couldn’t sustain it.

“Defensively, we can be better,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “We struggled again in 1-on-1 situations.”

Looking ahead, the Heat will stay in Los Angeles to face the Lakers on Wednesday, while the Clippers are set to visit the Phoenix Suns, starting a three-game road trip.
