The Dallas Cowboys, facing a significant defeat against the Green Bay Packers, are likely looking at a coaching change this NFL offseason.

In their Sunday matchup, the Cowboys trailed the Packers, the No. 7 seed, with a score of 48-32 in the late fourth quarter. Dallas trailed 27-0 at one point, with such an outcome sparking speculation about Mike McCarthy being fired.

The official word from Jerry Jones to reporters after Sunday’s game was not that “one second” of thought had been given to potential changes to the coaching staff.

“I haven’t thought one second about it,” Jones said via Charean Williams of PFT. “My whole thought process was getting ready for a playoff game here next week. I am amazed to be sitting where we are right now.”

Regardless, there has already been a strong expectation that defensive coordinator Dan Quinn was coaching his final playoff run for the Cowboys with the expectation of departing for a head coaching job elsewhere. However, it’s difficult to gauge his prospects after Dallas’ defense gave up 48 points in a playoff game.

Widespread speculation suggests Bill Belichick could be the top candidate to take over as head coach once McCarthy is officially released from his duties.

This sentiment is echoed by former New England Patriots player Julian Edelman, who hinted at this possibility with a tweet saying “Live from Dallas” on Sunday.

Following this overwhelming loss, it’s evident that the Cowboys will need to make a substantial move in the offseason to address their shortcomings. Dallas has failed to make it out of the NFC since 1995, meaning it’s been almost 30 years.

With the focus now turning to Dallas, the football world is keenly watching to see how the team will navigate this critical juncture, especially regarding their head coaching position.
