The New England Patriots have already made a significant coaching change by promoting Jerod Mayo, their linebackers coach, to the position of head coach.

This decision, announced on Friday, has sparked various reactions and discussions within the sports community.

One notable voice in this conversation is Colin Cowherd, the Fox Sports radio host, who shared his thoughts on “The Herd.”

Cowherd doesn’t particularly favor this move by the Patriots. He believes that the franchise should have opted for a fresh perspective and innovative ideas instead of adhering to the traditional “Patriot Way.”

“The Patriots have hired one of their own, linebackers coach Jerod Mayo. His nickname is Bill Jr. His entire career was in New England. It would not be my first choice. He’s a defensive head coach – you know how I feel about that. It’s a lame, talentless offense. Good luck for a linebackers coach trying to solve it.”

He continued on ripping into the move and expects to see more of the same downward swing for the Patriots.

“It feels like the Patriots are adding a new chapter to the same old book.”

Jerod Mayo’s connection with the Patriots runs deep; he played for the team from 2008 to 2015 and joined their coaching staff in 2019. This extensive experience gives him unique insight into the organization’s expectations and values for its head coach.

The Patriots are gearing up to officially introduce Jerod Mayo as their new head coach in the upcoming week, signaling a new era for the team under his leadership.
