Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts dislocated the middle finger on his throwing hand during his team’s loss to the New York Giants last weekend, leaving his status for his team’s Wild Card Round matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers up in the air.
Hurts provided an update on his injury Thursday, saying that he has not attempted to throw a football since the Giants game but that he is still moving along.
“I have not. I have not,” Hurts said when asked if he has thrown, via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “I can assure you everything’s progressing in the right way.”
While Hurts says that he is progressing, it has to be somewhat concerning to the Eagles that he has not even attempted to throw a football with the team’s first playoff game just a few days away.
Now, fortunately, Philadelphia will not play until Monday night, giving Hurts an extra day of rest, but you have to wonder if he will be close to 100 percent against the Buccaneers.
Hurts added that his finger hurt more the day after the game than it did when he initially dislocated it.
“Everything is a challenge when you have a finger out of place,” he added.
The 25-year-old went 7-for-16 with 55 yards and an interception against New York. He did not come out for the second half, as the Eagles were already trailing 24-0.
However, he did return to the field after hurting his finger early in the contest, which Hurts acknowledged was probably not the best decision.
“Obviously, leaving that game and attempting to go back in that game probably wasn’t physically the best idea,” he said.
Jalen Hurts threw for 3,858 yards, 23 touchdowns and 15 interceptions while completing 65.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 89.1. He also rushed for 605 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Philadelphia lost five of its last six regular-season games, ending the year at 11-6.
